3: Layers of Light

Think about your lighting design in terms of different layers:- 

3.1: Ambient lighting = establishes a general level of lighting within a space. 

3.2: Task lighting = ensures adequate lighting for tasks, such as food preparation, desktop, hobbies, reading, dining. 

3.3: Accent/Feature Lighting = provides ‘Wow Factor’ for architectural/decorative features eg. pitched ceilings, wall-recesses, feature windows, sculptures, pictures and artwork displays. 

3.4: Background lighting = provides soft background lighting and ‘pathways’ throughout the space or whole property. 3.5: Special Effects eg. colour-changing RGBW, starry ceiling, unusual lighting effects.
